Did you know…
BEYOND THE PALE. The “pale” in this idiom stems from the Latin “palus”, one of the stakes driven into the ground to designate a boundary. For example “pale” fences were built all over Europe beginning in the Roman era to designate territory belonging to a particular nation. By the 14th century, a pale had come to mean a territory, as in the 15th century ”English Pale” portion of Ireland that England controlled. The meaning eventually changed, partly as a result of Rudyard Kipling’s story “Beyond the Pale”(1888). The pale became a place to which. Those beyond the limits of human decency were relegated.
Week three of the new Winter Menu starts on Monday 29th of July. Please place any orders by Thursday lunchtime. Bon Appetit!
