BE PREPARED FOR THE UNEXPECTED
For those residents unable to attend the wonderfully presented discussion with Faversham Residential Manager, Sue Bowditch yesterday, here is a very brief overview that may assist you on your way.

There is quite a process to enter into aged care with two fundamental things everyone needs in place if they make the move. The main focus was around what you need in place when you’re faced with sudden change, in other words, ‘be prepared for the unexpected’.

Firstly, it is imperative to have an Aged Care Assessment (ACAT) conducted to assess your eligibility to access
higher level services including Commonwealth Funded home care packages (cleaning, shopping), residential respite care or residential aged care for example. This assessment stays with you and can be re-assessed if your needs become greater over time. You do not have to be in a situation where you require any of the services to have an aged care assessment, however it will assist you in remaining independent longer.

A Centrelink Assets & Income Assessment (lengthy 40 page document) is the second vital step in the aged care process and not to be left for an unexpected highly stressful time of having to urgently move into care. This will determine how much the Government will fund, and / or you fund for your daily accommodation and care needs and can be completed with the assistance of your accountant.

Please take the time to look at the comprehensive information provided on the My Aged Care website, myagedcare.gov.au and let me know if you would like a second session with Sue in the new year.
