Important Dates

  • BEING PREPARED FOR AGED CARE
In recent times it’s become apparent that unfortunately for a number of Hester Canterbury residents they’ve not been prepared for the unexpected. Sue Bowditch, Residential Manager at Faversham House will be at Hester Canterbury on Wednesday 21 December at 10:30am in the Club Lounge to outline some simple steps and pre-planning, plus what you need to have in place in case of emergency respite or permanent independent aged care. Please join Sue for morning tea and a chat, that will place you one step forward for the future.
  • HESTER CLASS – MOVIE COMMITTEE REPORT 2022
This year there were 44 movies shown with an average attendance of nine residents. A highlight was on August 8, the day after Olivia Newton-John’s death, we showed the movie ‘Grease’ that made her a star and household name. 13 residents attended that night. Since we started showing movies in 2015, there has been a significant change with many films today shown only through streaming services. If the Hester Canterbury licence covers it, we’ll be able to screen a large selection of current and classic movies from the variety of streaming services such as Netflix, Disney or Stan. There will be no Tuesday Night screenings for the next 3 weeks, but save a seat for another amazing year of movies commencing Tuesday 10 January 2023.

House Keeping:

  • MYSTERY INSIGHT (Who am I?)
‘One Friday night some years ago, I had a desperate phone call to go and assist a company with whom I was very familiar, to promote a range of health products. The hilarious experiment was orchestrated by a German Professor of Chemistry and a Pakistani Doctor of Medicine and included working on the viscosity of honey spread over a bowl of porridge. Let’s just say, it was a very successful evening’
Any clue to this cryptic crusader? Please let me know which resident you think it is to win the weekly prize, and while you’re at it, submit your own ‘Who Am I?’, the last for the year.
  • COMING SOON – HAIRDRESSER @ HESTER
We are presently looking into offering a fully qualified mobile Women’s and Men’s hairdresser who would come to you at home. Watch this space.
  • FLIP A LID FOR STAGE ONE OF ORGANIC WASTE CONTROL
We are pleased to announce that the first initiative to come from the Organic Compost Strategy Meetings has been acquired and placed in the middle (South) refuse room. The Balcony Green Waste bin is there for all residents to use and will be managed by our wonderful gardeners, Martin and Constanza. The green waste bin is to be utilized for discarding old plants, clippings or used potting mix from your balcony only, as other organics such as food scraps will help feed our worm farms when they arrive soon. Start gardening with care.

Week Three of the Summer Menu starts on Monday 19 December.
Please place any orders by 1pm the Thursday before.
Bon Appetit!

A LITTLE CHRISTMAS CHEER
Last Monday’s residents Christmas Lunch went off with a bang of bon-bons. With subtle Christmas songs playing in the background, our community were treated to 4 delicious Christmas themed courses served up with joyful conversation and plenty of flutes brimming with bubbles. The highlight for most was the Dessert Degustation table of Christmas Cookies, Pavlova Snowmen, Chocolate Caramel Tarts, Christmas Jell-O-Shots, Cheesecake Bits and Lemon Meringue Tarts, brilliantly crafted by the talented Faversham Chefs, that most residents plated up and snuck away with to have in their apartment when they were not so full. In true community spirit it was lovely to see everyone so relaxed and enjoying the afternoon. We are sorry for those residents that were unable to attend the lunch and extend our best Christmas cheer to you and hope you had the opportunity to sample some of the leftover treats.

THANK YOU DOESN’T SEEM ENOUGH
On behalf of Martin, Tim, Tony and myself we would like to express how overwhelmed and embarrassed we are of the communities amazing generosity and wish to express our upmost gratitude. Hester Canterbury is special to all of us and we love providing the support and having the opportunity to be part of your lives and hopefully enrich it further. Thank you once again.

Have a great week and take care.
