Communal Vegetable
Garden
As always, there is a fabulous array of herbs and vegetables thriving in the Hester Communal Garden. Please help yourselves to any herbs at any time, it is respectfully requested that the vegetables are left to our gardening experts to harvest and the crop will be available for all residents once placed on the café area bench.

Carpet Cleaning
Thursday 4th of February carpets in the public areas will be cleaned. While the carpets should not be overly wet, please be aware that the non carpeted areas bordering the carpet may be slippery due to some of the chemical cleaners falling on the area.
A sign up sheet is available at the Reception desk for residents wishing to have their apartment carpets cleaned. ($115 for a 2 bedroom apartment and $160 for a 3 bedroom apartment including GST). Once it is established how many apartments are to be cleaned, we will be able to organize a date near the 4th of February to get this work done and will notify all residents.

Movie Matinee

The Court Jester (1955 Musical Comedy)
Stars: Danny Kaye, Glynis Johns, Basil Rathbone
A hapless performer masquerades as the court jester as part of a plot against an evil ruler who has overthrown the rightful king. (no captions)

Did you know…

The Jester
A court jester, jester or fool was historically an entertainer during the medieval and Renaissance eras who was a member of the household of a nobleman or a monarch, and was employed to entertain the court and guests.
After the Restoration, Charles the Second did not reinstate the tradition of the British court jester, instead patronizing the theatre.
The last British nobles to keep jesters were the Queen Mother’s family, the Bowes-Lyons.
Curiously, Tonga was the first royal court to appoint a court jester in the 20th Century, the jester JD Bogdanoff (who was later embroiled in financial scandal).

Chinese New Year! Year of the Rat…

The Rat is the first of all Chinese zodiac animals. According to one myth, the Jade Emperor said the order would be decided by the order in which they arrived to his party. The Rat tricked the Ox into giving him a ride. Then, just as they arrived at the finish line, Rat jumped down and landed ahead of Ox, becoming first.

Week two of the Summer Menu starts on Monday 3rd February.
Please place any orders by lunchtime the Thursday before.
Bon Appetit!
