LOOKING FORWARD TO LOUNGING AROUND
I’m sure you have all been keen to take a peep at the progress in the Club Lounge and Dining Rooms, well I am pleased to advise that construction work is progressing well. The contractors have completed the installation of the new floorboards, the skirting boards have been replaced and corking around all the edges is complete. In the coming days we will see the plastering work and painting commence, the furniture placed back and a deep clean of Stage One & Two areas. A final walk through will be performed and any minor defects rectified before it is handed back to the residents.

A BUBBLY HIGH TEA @ HESTER
To welcome back and celebrate the return of the Dining Room and Club Lounge in the coming weeks, let’s celebrate with a Champagne High Tea. In an attempt to cater for as many residents who would like to attend, please let me know if there’s any particular weekday that you’re not available on a regular basis. Ideally we will look to start popping corks at around 3pm, a traditional high tea time. Once we have a suitable day and date, I will place out the Sign Up form on the Reception desk.
Start wetting your whistle and working up an appetite.

Week Three of the Autumn Menu starts on Monday 27 March.
Please place any orders by 1pm the Thursday before.
Bon Appetit!

A PLACE TO CALL HOME FOR OVER 50 YEARS
Long before you moved your furniture into the beautifully designed elegance of the Hester Canterbury’s community, there was another grateful community that called 9 – 15 Chatham Road Canterbury their home. Standing proudly where Hester Canterbury now resides, Chatham Lea Hostel, that was owned and operated by the Canterbury Centre, first opened its doors to senior members of the community in 1971 serving a clear need for additional hostel accommodation in the area. The hostel was extended twice over its 40 plus year history, firstly a 21 bed extension in 1975 and the addition of a further 30 beds in 1992, bringing Chatham Lea’s offering to 81 beds in total. Some of the parallels to the modern day lifestyle indicates that not much has changed over time as the hostel boasted a library, exercise classes and craft programs, plus a residents committee, and had to secure the expenditure of over $20,000 in 1992 to fund the replacement of hallway carpets, as well as the repainting of public areas. Even back in those early years, Chatham Lea was praised for the excellent standards that are maintained, something we endeavor to continue well into the future at Hester Canterbury.

A JAB AT COVID
The fifth COVID-19 booster vaccination shot is ‘Now Available’ from a local pharmacy or general practitioner near you and is totally free to the willing. You can find the closest vaccine clinic online at the Government website covid-vaccines.healthdirect.gov.au or contact your G.P for an appointment. It is important that you take all appropriate measures to guard against illness so maybe take the 2 for 1 deal and have your Flu shot as well.
